Real examples of potential landlord liability claims or expenses covered
by Renter’s Insurance (actual claim notes):
Property A: Insured knocked lamp over which fell on
jeans and started fire.
Property B: Propane tank for BBQ caught on fire while
insured’s son, age 45 (live in his own home), was trying to help
hook it up. Damage to building. Son in hospital w/ 2nd degree burns over
30% of his body.
Property C: Insured were in process of moving to a new
residence. While they were in the new residence, someone broke into their
old apartment, vandalizing it. Toilets were removed and water flooded
the unit.
Property D: 6 year old son accidentally set blanket
on fire with candle lighter while insured was in shower.
Property E: Insured’s 4 year old son walked away
from the sink when he was brushing his teeth, leaving water on. Apartment
flooded.
Property F: Wife left sink running with plug in it and caused
water damage to apartment.
Property G: Insured’s toaster malfunctioned. Frozen
waffles did not pop up. A fire started and damaged kitchen.
